Why does nightfall happen?

Nightfall happens because the Earth rotates on its axis. As it rotates, different parts of the Earth face away from the Sun, causing darkness, which we call night.

To put it simply: the Sun doesn’t move around us; instead, our planet spins. When your location turns away from the Sun’s rays, it becomes night. This cycle takes about 24 hours, which gives us day and night.
