Why rating of transformer in kva?

A transformer's rating is in kVA because its key limitations are voltage and current. The manufacturer has no idea what the power factor of your load will be. Since kVA is simply kilovolts multiplied by amps, it represents the transformer's true capacity, regardless of the load's specific characteristics.
