Does the government usually extend the ITR deadline every year?

Answer # 1 #

The government does not promise an extension every year. It is more like an emergency relief. For example, in 2020 and 2021 during pandemic, dates were extended. In 2022, they did not extend. So, it depends on the situation.

I have been filing for 10 years. In my experience, yes, many times the deadline is extended because of taxpayers’ pressure and system problems. But we should not depend on it. Some years, there is no extension at all.

Not every year, but in recent years it has happened often. Reasons include COVID-19 pandemic, portal glitches, and natural disasters. In normal years, the deadline remains July 31 without change. So, extension is not a guaranteed practice, it happens only when there are genuine problems.
