I use breathing techniques. Inhale slowly, count to five, exhale. This small trick saved me from many bad arguments. Also reminding myself: “I love this person, not enemy.”

I walk away for a short while. A five-minute break helps me not to say hurtful words. After cooling down, I can listen better. Staying in heated moment only makes things worse.
