Some people try to change surname online without proof, but UIDAI rejects updates without valid proof. So, best practice: get at least one ID updated with new surname, then update Aadhaar.

Technically, Aadhaar requires valid proof for any demographic update, including surname. There is no official way to update without documents. You need one of these:- Passport- PAN card- Voter ID- Birth certificate You must visit Aadhaar Seva Kendra or update online with document upload.
