Living on campus is a significant learning experience in a residential liberal arts college. Students who live on campus are often better connected to the University because of the community that is created and developed by the students on their floor, pod or building. Residential students learn critical life skills from living with others. To assist in building a community, professional educators and Peer Assistants staff all first year buildings in addition to the Heim/White Suites. Through programs, service opportunities and informational resources, they also teach skills that help residents learn to live and study together in the halls. Their role is to assist each resident in becoming more assertive, understanding of diverse perspectives, lifestyles and experiences, learning how to resolve conflicts in a civil manner, developing individual identity as a person of worth, developing healthy relationships, and becoming a citizen leader.

Typically, first year students live in the traditional halls and returning students live in the suite-style facilities and townhouses.

Our housing options include:

Our traditional residence halls—one all-women and four coeducational—provide a variety of living arrangements to suit the needs and preferences of students. All are furnished and have wireless internet service. In addition, each facility provides a central living area with a community TV/lounge, laundry rooms, and kitchenettes.

Heim and White Suites are air-conditioned, suite-style, residential facilities for sophomores and juniors. Typically housing four students, these suites consist of a central living space with a kitchenette that includes a small refrigerator and microwave, two bedrooms and bathrooms. On each floor, there’s a lounge with a TV, pool table, foosball, computers, and study tables. The first floor has a small kitchen and a patio that provides space for outside lounging.

The Townhouse Village offers independent living in 30 four-person, air-conditioned units. Each unit has four furnished private bedrooms and two bathrooms. The townhouse comes equipped with a 21 cubic-foot refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher, and full-size, stackable washer and dryer.

That is what I’ve learned while residing in an NWU residence and you’ll experience the same. It is the place where you will learn, but it’ll also be the place to expand your worldview and discover the professional you envision yourself to be.

What is more, the NWU offers you an enormous variety of accommodation on and off the campuses and would like to help you to find the perfect home away from home.

Keep on reading to learn more about closing dates, fees payable, and contact information of residences on our three campuses.

When is the closing date?

The closing date for, especially on-campus residences, is 30 September. Your residence application should have accompanied your online application. However, if for some reason you did not complete the residence application section, you can send an email to the contact persons at our campuses as indicated below.

What to pay?

A R500 deposit is required on all three campuses. This is to secure your place. If you have secured funding from NSFAS, a deposit is not needed as accommodation is also covered by the NSFAS bursary. For more information on fees payable click here.
