How to play hkx files?
HKXPack is a tool to 'pack' and 'unpack' to and from hkx files, which is the Havok compressed file format.
It was made to be used with the hk_2014.1.0-r1 file format, commonly used in Fallout 4. Given the opportunity, support for hk_2010.2.0-r1 or other hkx formats may be added.
The output format is intended to be TagXML, output by figment's hkxcmd.
Some other output formats may be added in the future (e.g. XAF/XMM or FBX for animations), but these formats aren't the focus of the tool. Note : this behavior now has been moved to the HKXAnim repository.

To use this tool, you will need a Java Runtime Environement (jre) for Java 8 or higher.
Don't forget to put quotes around your path if you have a path with spaces !

This project can be built using Maven. Use the command by running the following Maven goals mvn clean package. The compiled jar will then be available under /cli/target/hkxpack-cli.jar
Import this project as a standard Maven project.

The tool was written for Java 8 using the Oracle JavaSE JDK (jdk1.8.0_66), and was originally intended to be a proof of concept.
You may find all available information under /doc. It contains mostly analysis and comparison of the hkx files as well as some software architecture concepts of the hkxpack software.
You might find out that some of the data required to run the tool is missing. That's because the 'classXML' files are obtained from the Fallout 4 game. You'll need the game to retrieve the files and, to prevent possible legal issues, they're not included in the sources. The way to obtain these files is currently built specifically for one machine, and its distribution isn't a priority.

After you convert an HKX file to an XML file, you can open and edit the XML file in Autodesk 3ds Max, Blender, or Autodesk Maya.
There can be multiple causes why you have problems with opening HKX files on given system. Problems with opening and working with HKX files are most probably having to do with no proper software compatible with HKX files being present on your machine. The safest method of downloading The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim installed is by going to developer’s website (Bethesda Softworks LLC) and downloading the software using provided links.
If the problems with opening HKX files still occur even after installing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, it is possible that you have an outdated version of the software. Check the developer’s website whether a newer version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is available. It may also happen that software creators by updating their applications add compatibility with other, newer file formats. If you have an older version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim installed, it may not support HKX format. All of the file formats that were handled just fine by the previous versions of given program should be also possible to open using The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
If the issue has not been solved in the previous step, you should associate HKX files with latest version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim you have installed on your device. The process of associating file formats with default application may differ in details depending on platform, but the basic procedure is very similar.

Should the problem still occur after following steps 1-3, check if the HKX file is valid. It is probable that the file is corrupted and thus cannot be accessed.
Should it happed that the HKX is infected with a virus, this may be that cause that prevents you from accessing it. Scan the HKX file as well as your computer for malware or viruses. If the HKX file is indeed infected follow the instructions below.
If the HKX file was sent to you by someone else, ask this person to resend the file to you. The file might have been copied erroneously and the data lost integrity, which precludes from accessing the file. It could happen the the download process of file with HKX extension was interrupted and the file data is defective. Download the file again from the same source.
Some files require elevated access rights to open them. Switch to an account that has required privileges and try opening the Skyrim Animation file again.
If the systems has insufficient resources to open HKX files, try closing all currently running applications and try again.
