Glow up is slang for transitioning one style or appearance to another. It’s a dramatic or impressive improvement or development that occurs over a short period.
A glow up stands for a metamorphose, a mental, physical, emotional, or spiritual change that has an improving effect on you. A “Glow up” can be due to your diet, exercise routines, clothing style, or makeup. It can take effect when you’re finally achieving the things you set out to do.
Are you in a rut? If you are, try changing things. Get in shape, get a new job, practice a new hobby, etc. Do things that make you happy. Even if you want to wallow in self-pity, don’t. Instead, learn how to deal with adversity and keep your chin up.
Depending on your goal, you can make simple or significant changes to achieve that beautiful, glowing skin. However, remember that beauty comes from within and can happen as quickly as overnight!
With a glow up, we try to improve your physical and mental condition with easy but efficient methods. These proven steps help you maintain your current fitness level or even slowly work towards improvement. In addition, some easy changes can boost your confidence instantly – bleach your teeth, or groom your eyebrows, put on a self tan for example.
As for the mental glow up, you can pursue practices or hobbies that relieve stress and help you relax. Such as activities such as yoga, tai chi, tai-chi, walking, and other types of exercises.
As you can just relax, take a moment, and focus on your mental and physical well-being. Actually, there are quite some ways you can achieve a quick glow up, whether you want to improve your appearance or physical or mental health.
Eating nutritious food will help your skin and hair look its best. It will also give you more energy to put towards your glow up. Avoid junk food and processed snacks. Instead, get extra vitamins and minerals from natural sources like wild salmon, leafy greens, and nuts.
An incredible thing you can do for your skin is to drink enough water. It helps to keep it hydrated and prevents dryness. On top of that, drinking enough water also helps flush out toxins from your body, giving your skin a dull appearance.
Focus on drinking eight glasses of water daily to get the most benefits. If you don’t like water alone, you can add some fresh fruit or herbs to boost flavor and nutrients.
Undoubtedly, getting a good night’s sleep is one of the best things you can do for your skin. It’s a fact that well-rested skin will repair itself from daily damage and regenerate new cells.
This process is essential for keeping your skin looking its best. You can do a few simple things to ensure you get the best night’s sleep possible:
Investing in a silk pillowcase is a great way to start if you’re looking for a way to glow up, as silk is gentle on your hair and skin and helps to prevent wrinkles and sleep creases. They also help to keep your hair looking shiny and smooth.
Plus, they just look and feel luxurious. A silk pillowcase is the perfect quick trick to start your glow up journey without much effort, and you’ll quickly see results.
If you’re able to exercise, don’t take this for granted, as this is such an essential part of your body’s and mental health. Regular exercise can help you to lose weight (if you want or need to), tone your muscles, and improve your skin and hair.
On top of that, chances are huge that it will also boost your mood and energy levels. So if you’re looking to glow up, make exercise a regular part of your routine.
If you want to glow up, you need to invest in your skin, and the best way to do this is to invest in quality products. This doesn’t mean you have to break the bank to get yourself some skincare products.
There are very affordable yet effective skincare products on the market too. If you have money or are willing to spend, opt for some luxury products (treat yourself!). Either way, skincare should be a part of your glow up.
A good skincare routine is essential for keeping your skin looking its best. Here are 5 steps you need for a fresh skincare routine:
There’s no denying that a good makeup routine can make you feel more confident and put-together. But if you’re using makeup products that are full of harsh chemicals, it can actually be doing more harm than good.
Your skin absorbs whatever you apply onto it into your body. So it’s important to invest in quality makeup that is made with non-toxic ingredients.
Not only is quality makeup better for your health, but it also tends to perform better than drugstore products. It goes on smoothly, lasts longer, and gives you a more natural-looking finish. On top of that, you don’t have to be scared about it irritating your skin or causing breakouts.
A good makeup routine is important for a fresh new look. Here are 10 tips for a great makeup routine:
There are countless makeup products on the market, so how do you know which ones are the best for achieving a fresh new look? Here are 10 of the best makeup products to help you glow up:
A red lip is viewed as a way to show confidence, but did you know red lipstick isn’t just makeup? Historically, it became the symbol of the American suffrage movement.
Women would wear red lipstick in public to shock men and use it as a way of embodying independence. It also signifies defiance, which society eventually realizes is powerful and intimidating.
Wearing the red shade on your lips is already a sign of confidence and can make you feel sexier. But do you know that you can still pull off that confidence with something more subtle and natural?
If you’re not into red lipstick, try some nude lipsticks that range from pale taupe to neutral beige, as it complements almost every outfit and every occasion. Instantly feel sexier when your outfit and makeup are top-notch and matching.
Using makeup correctly can help boost your sex appeal. Your eyes are one of the primary areas that helps you look attractive with the proper eye makeup application.
Styling your eyes with liners and eyeshadows can make or break your look, but finding the right one to wear that complements your outfit can bring out that sensual look.
A pro tip: try the latest siren-eyes trend while experimenting with eye makeup for a mysterious, feminine look. And if you haven’t tried already, you can play with false eyelashes too.
To find your personal style, you must experiment and try new things. Pay attention to what you like and don’t like and what looks good on you.
If you want to, you can stay up-to-date with trends, but don’t feel you need to follow them blindly. Instead, find what works for you and what makes you feel confident.
One way to instantly improve your appearance is to invest in some new clothes. No worries, you don’t have to drop hundreds of dollars to do so – just a few basic pieces can make a big difference.
First, look for flattering items that make you feel good about yourself – this will help you exude confidence, which is always attractive.
Next, consider your color palette carefully, which can also impact your look. Finally, choose clothing that makes you feel like your best self – you’ll be sure to radiate positive vibes when you look and feel great!
Fashion can easily help you transform your look and boost your confidence. So if you’re looking for how to glow up your style, here are 4 tips:
Cotton pajamas might be your nightly go-to, but why not try good, sexy lingerie and treat your skin to demure fabric? You deserve to enjoy luxury silk and lace chemises even on a typical day since wearing something special can help boost your confidence. Beautiful intimates are not just made to entice a special someone but for you to feel good inside out.
If you don’t have a good set of lingerie yet, it’s time you invest in them. A good-fitting bra that you can wear daily at work or even when running errands can make you feel like a million bucks.
So, don’t be afraid to spend on luxurious lingerie because they are not just supportive physically but also amplify your sexual appeal.
Whether you like to admit it or not, you have a favorite part of your body and parts that you’re insecure about. But, knowing what can complement your best parts is the secret. As everybody in the fashion industry says, ‘if you have it, flaunt it.’
Sexiness doesn’t mean bearing them to their full glory but knowing how to highlight them tastefully and accentuating your look without looking scandalous is the way to go. Invest in clothes that complement your body shape and are comfortable while still feeling a little sexy.
Whether you’ve had the same hairstyle for years, changing it can make a big difference. If you want to boast a new look for yourself, why not opt for a shorter, sultry hairstyle?
Some may find it daunting to have their long locks chopped off, but getting the right hairstyle that best fits your features can reveal your seductive side.
If you look at celebrities looking sexy and sophisticated in short hairstyles, it’s because their stylists know what works for them. Getting a new look demands you trust your stylist for results that align with your vision.
If you’re not ready for a haircut, you can try changing your style. For instance, you can try parting it on the other side or use hair accessories to style it.
There’s nothing like finding a new signature scent to make you feel refreshed and confident. So whether you’re looking to glow up for a special occasion or update your everyday look, here are tips for finding a new scent that suits you.
One of the most important things you can do for yourself is to develop a self-care routine. This is a set of activities you regularly do to take care of your physical and mental health.
A self-care routine can help you make time for yourself and do things that make you feel good.
It can be as simple as taking a few minutes each day to do something for yourself, like taking a bath, reading a book, or taking a walk.
Or, you can set aside one day each week to do something special for yourself, like getting a massage or going to the movies. Whatever you do, make sure it’s something you enjoy and makes you feel good.
A manicure and pedicure are wonderful ways to implement some me-time into your daily life. Here are three tips to get the most out of your manicure and pedicure:
It’s important to pamper yourself with regular beauty treatments to maintain your appearance and well-being. Beauty treatments can include anything from getting your hair and nails done to indulging in a relaxing massage or a facial.
Taking care of yourself makes you look and feel good and can also be a great way to reduce stress. So go ahead and treat yourself to a little luxury – you deserve it!
To glow up, it is vital to cut out negative people and influences from your life. This can be difficult but worth it in the long run. There are a few things to keep in mind when doing this.
First, it is crucial, to be honest with yourself about these negative people. Second, asserting and setting boundaries with these people is essential.
Finally, it is vital to let go of any guilt or feelings of obligation that you may have towards these people. If you can do these things, you will be well on your way to a fresh look.
It doesn’t take much to look and feel sexy. Knowing how to highlight your best assets and wearing something that makes you feel good and happy gives you an edge. Keep in mind that sexiness is about confidence in the way you look and feel your best.
Next season is coming our way faster than expected.
And as long as I can remember, I have always loved having a month of “glow up” every season.
I used to do it every summer before school, in late autumn before holidays, and then – in late winter to get ready for spring (eventually – summer).
Every time I started my glow up month, it turned into a meditative time filled with beauty routines and honest, loving self-care.
It’s like a delightful way to say goodbye to summer or get ready for a busy winter, but you can do this glow up challenge at any time of the year, of course.
For those unfamiliar with the term “glow up”, here’s how the Urban Dictionary describes it:
Natural glow ups can happen through puberty years, but I think that the best glow ups happen when you fall in love!
To me, the glow-up challenge is a month that you dedicate to yourself, focusing on improving your wellness, health, looks, and mental strength to look and feel your absolute best.
Even if it’s one of the busiest months for you, it’s a perfect time to take a glow up challenge.
“Yeah… Wait, what?”
That’s right! The more work or chores you have to do, the more you need your self care.
Skip your self-care for a week or two and see what happens.
You start looking tired, the stress weight gain (or loss) begins, and you’re also on your way to burnout (which is way harder to heal from than simple everyday tiredness).
“Okay, but I don’t have time for this. I don’t have time for anything!”
This is why it’s so essential to glow up without affecting your life – and I’m going to show you how!
This glow up challenge includes activities that require a little more time, but quite a few are quick and integrate seamlessly into your everyday life.
Oh, you can do so many things that won’t take much of your busy schedule! *claps eagerly*
And guess what – if you’re super dedicated, you can have a glow up in less than 30 days – just make sure always to choose what’s good and healthy (we’ll touch this part later).
And please know that this is not only for your looks!
Feeling pretty and “put together” definitely adds a good amount of joyful mood.
I know that it’s sometimes hard to take care of yourself, especially if you feel tired, have a bad mood, lack motivation, or try to cope with anxiety or life in general.
But sometimes, doing a few caring things helps to improve these negative feelings.
Okay, back to our glow up! Are you ready?
Here’s how to have a glow up of your life – for beauty, health, and wellness.
This part of your glow up challenge is about getting healthier, more fit, and achieving a healthier physical appearance.
I will not be talking about colossal body makeovers here. Let’s be realistic – those require way more time.
If you’re committed to long-term body changes, I highly recommend you to go through my 100 Actions To Get Fit list to prep your mindset.
For a fast body glow up (just enough to get you ready, healthy, and more toned for the next season), here’s what you can do now.
I love drinking a lot of water.
Not just because it keeps you healthy and energetic, it also shows that you’ve been drinking it.
So make it your glow up step one and increase your water intake today.
If you hate plain water, add some taste with fruits, mint, or cucumber!
And if you keep forgetting to stay hydrated, here’s a small tip!
Having a pretty water bottle can help you to build a healthy habit of drinking water regularly.
It’s also a nice accessory to carry around.
Hip 22 oz. Plastic Water Bottle with Silicone Sleeve
Yomious 20 Oz Borosilicate Glass Water Bottle with Bamboo Lid
Eating more veggies and fruits is beneficial for all of us.
Also, it’s a perfect, healthy way to lose a few pounds without feeling like you’re dieting.
Here’s how to start eating more vegetables for your glow up challenge!
Eating this way will boost your metabolism, give you a natural glow, boost your hair radiance, help you to become more fit, improve circulation, and make your skin softer.
So many benefits – it is not a joke!
The right diet is your straightway to becoming prettier in no time.
Just try it and thank me later.
When I want to eat healthier, I also use this little mindset shift: imagine that every veggie, nut, or fruit you eat will make you prettier and happier.
It’s not imaginary – every healthy food gives your body nutrients necessary for your skin, nails, hair, and cognitive functions.
For example, flax seeds are especially beneficial for your mood (and can even help you to fight depression) thanks to their high amount of omega 3 acids and magnesium.
Spinach is an absolute champ veggie that has so much zinc that your skin will forget about blemishes, and your hair will look fantastic.
Avocados can give you that nice glowing skin thanks to their abundant sources of Vitamin E and C.
Other foods that will make your body “glow up” are berries, greek yogurt, lean meats, fish, seafood, various seeds, olive oil, turmeric, ginger, mushrooms, oats, honey, and various fermented foods.
Just one thing to remember – all foods have calories.
Some have more, some have less, but if you want to lose weight while you glow up, you have to make sure you are not overeating these healthy foods.
It is a myth that simply eating healthy is enough to lose weight… It doesn’t work like that unless you’re an athlete.
It usually comes down to the calories in and calories out.
Yes, there are occasions when weight loss can be hindered by hormonal imbalance or specific health problems, but generally speaking, if you consume fewer calories than your body can use up, you will lose weight.
Alternatively, if you consume more than you use up, you will gain weight, even if you’re just eating avocados and healthy energy bites.
Keep in mind that skipping meals never works, though.
If you don’t give enough calories for your body, it will easily convert even zero-calorie foods into those cute belly wrinkles.
You gotta find that golden balance of keeping your body nourished but not overnourished.
If you want to find out the number of calories you need + keep track of your daily food consumption, I recommend the MyFitnessPal app – it’s very helpful and accurate!
P. S. Avoid processed foods too – they’re chock-full of sodium and have lower nutritional value, leaving your skin, hair, nails, and everything else craving nutrients.
I know you don’t have time.
Or energy. I don’t either (yet!).
But working out is an essential part of “glowing up”.
So let’s be smart and make this work, even if you’re super busy.
Here’s how to have a non-overwhelming glow up routine for your beautiful body.
Instead of committing to a long workout once a day, commit to just a few short, 10-15 minute workouts that you can fit into your schedule whenever you have a small gap.
Try a short 15-minute workout in the morning and one in the evening.
It’s enough to make your body warm, make your heart beat faster, and it totals 30 minutes of exercising every day.
On days when I have more spare time, I incorporate even more of these quickies (“that’s what she said” – Michael S.) to reap more benefits.
This method is also excellent if you’re overweight and it’s hard for you to start with full workouts.
Doing a little bit, a few times a day will help your body to get gradually stronger and prepare you for more strenuous workouts later.
If your body allows it, use some weights!
The faster you make your muscles stronger, the sooner you will start burning more calories, resulting in your body getting fitter.
Also, be conscious of your posture.
Good posture is half of the work on your body glow up routine.
Practice standing and walking straight.
It will help you look healthier, and it can literally make you feel better about yourself.
Do you absolutely hate working out? Here’s how to learn to enjoy it!
A healthy golden glow, for me, is one of the most important “glow up” tasks.
It’s just something about bronzy skin that makes a person look a lot healthier (and did I mention that it really improves the way your makeup looks?).
When I was a teenager, I used to spend my whole summer tanning on the beach just to get that dark tan before school.
I know – unhealthy!
I don’t do this anymore, and I wish I had never done this (I have quite a few moles today).
So, how to glow up your skin with a lovely shade of golden, rich, sun-kissed tan and keep your skin healthy while doing that?
You will have to choose a self-tanner as an alternative.
Yes, it takes quite some time to keep up with a good self-tanning routine (most tans need to be “built-up” and don’t last more than a week).
Here’s what you can do to outsmart this!
Recently, I fell in love with this – shall I say – innovative self-tanner by St. Tropez:
St. Tropez Gradual Tan In Shower Lotion Golden Glow Medium
With this self-tanner, you can skip all those long self-tanner applications – waiting – showering routines because this one is used in the shower for three minutes and washed off afterward.
What??
Yes!! Now you can shower AND tan at the same time!
I couldn’t believe it at first either, but yes – you don’t have to sleep covered in fake tan anymore.
It works just perfectly.
The color is nice, subtle, and natural, with no sticky feeling, no streaks, no dreading that your self-tanner will stain your clothes.
You can gradually build it up to the color you want.
Of course, you will still get a little bit of self-tanner smell with it, but I noticed that it’s much less detectable than with other tans.
You can get this tanner in a lighter or darker shade on Amazon:
St. Tropez Gradual Tan In Shower Lotion Golden Glow Medium
ST. TROPEZ Gradual Tan In Shower Lotion Light
And here are some more of my self-tanner tips: 5 Critical Self Tanner Tips For a Natural Tan All Year Round
This one is simple!
Just allow yourself to sleep more to help your body rest, recover and recharge.
It’s way more important than watching another episode on Netflix.
After all, any sleep is beauty sleep!
The air we breathe can have a direct impact on how we look, and feel.
I used to think I’m breathing fresh air in my home, but after doing an air quality test the hairs on my neck stood up.
There were allergens, tons of microdust, even MOLD particles (and I’m a clean freak!), everywhere around me.
No wonder I felt so stuffy so often.
So what can you do about air quality?
If you can invest some money, the EOS system is an absolute winner in home air purification.
I’ve been dreaming about it for a long time and hope to be able to get it one day for my family home.
It can filter out mold, pollen, dust mite allergens, food smells, formaldehydes, RNA + DNA viruses (!).
It can literally obliterate all those teeny tiny airborne pathogens that get us sick.
Hands down every germophobe’s dream!
If interested, you can read more about air quality here.
But if a personal air purifier is something out of reach, try to follow these tips as they can be just as helpful:
This part of your glow up challenge focuses on minor beauty improvements that you can do for your face, especially if you want to achieve a serious, radiant glow for your skin.
I have great news for you here – if you’re already doing the Body part, your face is getting prettier just because of that.
All that water and a healthy diet feed your skin to rebuild it, make more collagen, clear out pimples, acne, redness, and what not!
Now, to make your face really glow, here’s what you can do.
1. Use gentle exfoliators with acids to reveal new, baby-like skin.
My favorite pick here is the Glycolic Acid.
It’s a type of AHA acid that is super effective and gentle enough for any type of skin.
Just don’t overdo it – once a week is completely enough, and if you have sensitive skin – make it once in two weeks.
You can read my whole Glycolic Acid guide here.
2. Do face massages with oils every week.
I love face massages!
They definitely help you get that glowing, healthy, smooth skin.
You can choose olive oil, coconut oil (this one is also antibacterial and good for acne skin), but my favorite one is Rose Hip Seed Oil.
This oil has practically transformed my skin.
I think it’s because it’s high in natural retinol, which is very effective at reducing fine lines. You can read my review here.
3. Use face masks or face packs every week.
Sheet masks also work wonders and are inexpensive.
I like to pick a few at the drugstore, preferably the natural ones, and have them ready in case I find a few minutes to relax with a mask on.
Masks are concentrated with hydrating and replenishing ingredients.
Hence, it’s a perfect way to get glowy, pretty, radiant skin (and yes, all skin types need a face mask once a week – dry skin, sensitive skin, combination skin, and acne skin).
3. No money for face masks? No problem! Use what you have in the kitchen.
And don’t believe that those things don’t work. They do!
You can never go wrong with DIY masks made with mashed banana, crushed oats, mango, honey, a little bit of olive oil, greek yogurt, avocado…
Just mix and match to find which food your skin tends to love – and feed it!
You will love it.
Your skin will love it.
4. Then – moisturize like crazy!
Moisture is the main thing your skin needs to look great.
So invest in a good, non-comedogenic moisturizer (and a serum, if possible!).
Use it religiously, morning and night, after washing your face with warm water (or micellar solution) to keep your skin plump and healthy.
5. Start using that sunscreen, please!
If you’ve been skimping on this, it’s time to create a skincare habit of applying sunblock every morning and reapplying it throughout the day.
I know it’s a messy thing to do, but believe it or not, you will notice positive improvements in your skin as soon as a few days after starting (yes, sunscreen is that effective!).
Look for SPF 30 and more.
6. How to glow up and have a lasting glo up effect at the same time? Get generally better at skincare with this helpful list for good skin, of course!
7. Don’t forget the makeup (if you want it!).
Makeup is such an easy way to enhance your beauty.
It would be an absolute shame to skip it!
Learn about the newest makeup hacks, trends, and tricks, practice makeup tutorials by watching Youtube videos, and don’t be afraid to experiment with different makeup looks.
“Okay, no time for all of this.”
That’s fine, here’s how to make this work on a busy schedule.
Instead of doing this on separate days, pick one day where you can find 20 minutes for yourself.
This is enough to do all these three steps together.
Exfoliate > Oil Massage > Mask > You’re done in 20 minutes and leave everything else to a healthy diet and working out.
It’s more effective than you think.
If you find your skin rather picky and don’t know which skincare line to choose, I recommend talking to your dermatologist.
I’ve been struggling with breakouts on my chin that would never go away for several years.
“Fungal acne”.
“Malassezia!”.
“Acne-prone skin”.
“Closed comedones…”.
“Skin purging??”
“That’s hormonal acne FOR SURE.”
“No, lady, you just need to go to church more”.
The internet would tell me I have everything, usually all at once.
I’ve tried everything under the sun until I finally went to a derm and found out that I simply had…
Combination skin.
That is correct, all I had to do was simply get an accurate skin type diagnosis and choose skincare products accordingly.
Not my proudest moment.
Please don’t judge.
Or judge, I’m learning to be okay with it anyway.
1. Do an eyebrow inspection.
Are they even?
Are they overplucked or a bit thin?
In that case, consider regrowing them and reshaping them into a more natural, fuller shape.
Now, they take some time to grow back, but you can hide it pretty well with good eyebrow gel and rock that fuller brow until it grows back.
Another thing I recommend doing is checking if the eyebrow pencil, gel, or shadow you’re using is not too dark for your face (that can make you look a bit older).
2. Take care of facial hair.
Some people love waxing or epilating, but I can’t stand the excruciating pain and opt for a simple feminine facial blade called “derma planning razor”.
This tool is a very sharp blade (gotta be extra careful with it!) and it removes facial hair just perfectly.
You can use it on your upper lip, on your peach fuzz, and it leaves your skin notably smooth.
I know what you want to ask…
No – your hair does NOT grow back darker!
I didn’t notice any change in hair thickness or color (and frankly, the thickness of your facial hair is decided by your hormones, not your hair removal method).
You can get your derma planning razor on Amazon here.
Just be careful – do a patch-shave-test to make sure your skin likes it.
Some people get breakouts after doing anything related to facial shaving.
3. Lip care.
Stop living with dry and flaky lips. Seriously.
You probably don’t even know how beautiful your lips are!
Include a lip scrub into your skincare routine (simple sugar + olive oil works great) and invest in a good, moisturizing lip balm.
Just try it, and you will be surprised how pretty your lips actually are and how much they can add to your look.
4. Teeth.
A brighter smile is always attractive, so if you want to glow up, don’t skip this one and make it a priority in your beauty routine.
You can use baking soda and even activated charcoal to gently remove any teeth stains.
If you want a more potent effect, opt for a few rounds of teeth whitening strips.
Just as with everything – be gentle, don’t overdo this.
You don’t want to sacrifice your teeth just for the whiter color.
It hurts!
5. Inspect your beauty products.
Many skin care products are formulated with harsh ingredients that can potentially damage your skin.
Inspect the bottles and try to replace anything that has paraben, synthetic fragrances, sodium laureth sulfate (this one especially!), and mineral oil in it.
And hey, I hope I don’t need to remind you to get rid of anything that has expired too!
Let’s admit, our hair plays a significant role in the way we look.
So what are the best ways to glow up your hair?
It’s not that hard as well when you know the best tips!
Ah, that uncomfortable sentence!
It hurts my hair follicles just reading it.
I don’t enjoy trimming my hair too, but those dry ends really don’t make your hair prettier.
Trim them. Just do it!
Schedule that salon visit, do it, and move on.
(Asking your hairdresser to be careful with length also helps).
If you are coloring your hair, renewing the color can feel very refreshing and make a difference in how your hair looks.
You don’t have to change your full-length color (unless you want some BIG changes in your appearance!).
Simply coloring it the same color again will make your hair look healthier, shinier, and the color more vibrant.
If it’s been a long time since you’ve changed your hairstyle overall, now is the perfect time to dive on the internet and see what’s new!
There are so many new hairstyle ideas you can try, even without changing color or hair length if you don’t want to.
If you trust your hairstylist, you can ask for their opinion of what could fit you and look stylish every day.
Summer sun, hair dyes, products, and especially box dyes are hard on your hair.
If you want to glow up your beautiful tresses, I highly recommend investing in a few quality products to heal whatever hair damage you have.
Now here’s the secret – it doesn’t have to be expensive.
I’ve completely healed my hair with natural remedies once, but this requires more time and patience.
If you want to recover your hair fast and skip the whole searching-for-good-products-without -going-broke part, try out my favorite brand – Giovanni:
Giovanni 2Chic Brazilian Keratin and Argan Oil Ultra-Sleek Shampoo, 24 oz.
GIOVANNI – 2Chic Brazilian Keratin & Argan Oil Ultra-Sleek Conditioner, 24 Oz
These products are very powerful, and they can heal dry and damaged hair in just a few uses, making your hair remarkably soft, shiny, and healthy.
This brand is my absolute drugstore favorite for hair, and I haven’t found anything else so effective yet.
In fact, this particular Brazilian Keratin line is always sold out where I live, so it shows just how good these products are (and it’s also a little annoying, to be honest!).
There’s also a great hair mask from the Ultra Moist collection if you notice that your hair is really dehydrated.
If you want to try out this hair care brand and wonder if Giovanni Haircare has sent me these products for free – nope, they didn’t.
I purchased these products myself multiple times in the past.
These recommendations are based on my real experience.
Here’s what I use for my hair right now (should I make a review?).
P. S. Have you ever tried a scalp scrub?
It’s a wonderful way to revive your hair, awaken those hair follicles and give your whole hairstyle more energy.
It can also help you to fight hair loss!
I wish I could have long nails.
I really adore forms and colors like these:
But it’s impossible to rock these when I’m clapping on my keyboard 24/7.
However, keeping nails pretty and tidy, even if they’re not long, is a fun part of your glow up challenge – no matter what your job is.
Healthy nails are a sign of good personal hygiene and a pretty important part of your glow up plan.
If you don’t like long nails, shorter ones can look just as good!
Now, this one is pretty simple.
First, decide how you’re going to keep your hand and feet nails pretty – and make that happen!
You can do your nails at home, at the salon, or maybe your friend is an aspiring nail artist.
Just keep those nails, cuticles, and toenails tidy.
It can also play a nice part in your daily mood.
Now, what’s a glow up challenge without a beautiful change in your mind and thoughts, right?
That’s how you glow up from the inside.
It’s not enough to improve how you look – one of the most significant changes happens within!
Sounds tricky?
Here’s how to have a glow up for your inner world while you enjoy your outer appearance getting prettier and healthier every day.
If you’ve been saying mean things to yourself until now, with this glow up challenge, make a pact never to do it again.
Let it all go!
Flush those thoughts out by choosing to think of beautiful and encouraging things.
Start taking care of yourself, your body, and every single cell of yours because this is you – and you deserve love.
Whenever you feel a negative thought coming up, change it to something more helpful, encouraging, and supportive.
Don’t try to push negative emotions away – instead, just be with them.
Notice them, let them float around, and decide to have a great time despite them.
It’s time to finally love yourself!
If you happen to have a lot of negative people in your life too, let them go, if possible!
Any negativity now will only dampen your mood, which is entirely unnecessary.
Surround yourself with people who support you, love you, and lift you up instead of bringing you down.
Be the first line of support for yourself.
For once, become your best friend instead of being your enemy.
Practice gratitude.
Smile at yourself!
It’s not easy, but it can make you so, so much happier.
Once you say goodbye to negative self-talk and self-criticism, allow real self-love to pour into your life by actually doing acts of love!
Enhance your glow up time with beautiful self-love.
Practice self-care activities that help you to calm down, slow down, appreciate the present moment, and be grateful for what you are and what you have now.

Looking back at the new year’s resolution you made? How many were ticked off, and how many were left unaccomplished?
Before the frustration hits you, have you tried to switch that list into a glow up checklist instead?
You don’t always have to wait for the year to give yourself a fresh start. No matter how hard it seems to change, there’s no better time than to begin today!
But what does it take for you to improve your looks overnight?
Quit the annual pressure; improving your physical appearance doesn’t need a deadline. Build it up from within. We’re here to guide you throughout the process!
While some say it’s puberty, others say it’s good fate and karma. But to tell you the truth, glowing up is all about willpower.
“Glow up” is a term used by the mainstream media to transform oneself for the better, whether it’s an emotional, mental, or physical metamorphosis.
A glow up doesn’t have any time limit, age, and gender restriction, and it has no solid pattern.
This means the way you glow up won’t be the same as ours, and that’s already one power it gives you. The rest depends on how well you spend time on yourself and how driven you are to achieve the change.
Going through so much in life can sometimes make you forget all the goals you have in mind.
To give you a clear direction and a constant reminder of why and how to improve your appearance, creating a checklist can always help you go back on track.
Setting up a glow up checklist or tracker can help you with these:
Bring out your pen and paper; this glow up guide is more than just about improving your appearance. We’ll get you through every aspect there is when it comes to self-transformation.
The face doesn’t glow better than when you have it healthy from within, and starting the checklist by prioritizing the largest organ in the body — aka the skin — is strategic.
But before we break down the essentials, have you heard about the skin barrier?
The skin barrier is the outermost layer of the skin that serves as a brick wall against pollutants. And this layer can be protected by ensuring your face is well moisturized and by sticking to a simple skincare routine.
Getting to wash your face in the morning and before going to sleep is a good practice, but you can begin your upgraded routine by cleansing, toning, and moisturizing.
But if you want a more in-depth morning and night routine, the correct sequence of applying skin care will be a huge help!
It’s applying the rule of thumb of lathering the products from thin to thick, so one product doesn’t block the next product.
Nothing beats an expert’s touch.
Whether you want a deep cleanse, a facial massage, or non-invasive treatments such as facial contouring, setting an appointment with a professional and giving yourself such an indulgent treat can improve your physical and mental well-being.
Speaking of facial massage, there are trends that we can’t afford not to try. Due to the popular demand for face rollers and gua sha, facial massages have been brought right to our doorsteps.
Using these, you’re relieving tension and improving blood circulation, which can give a noticeable change in your face.
Love them or hate them, we got nothing against facial hair. But if you want a neat-looking canvas, you can remove them.
Tools like epilators can get the job done quickly and easily.
Brows are also vital in defining the look. Keep the messy growths out of sight through hair removal procedures like waxing, plucking, or threading.
You can also hold them in place and keep them trendy by booking a nanoblading, microblading, or eyebrow tinting appointment.
And maybe it’s time to get a break from the falsies and lash extensions and embrace your natural lashes by growing them naturally.
Aside from being the eyes’ shield against dirt and other airborne debris, eyelashes can make the eyes more dramatic and dreamy. Not everyone is gifted with naturally long and curly lashes, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have one!
You can work on those lengths by applying natural oils such as castor oil or other lash growth serum before bed. This establishes the moisture in those lashes and keeps them nourished.
A keratin lash lift can also help you ditch those eyelash curlers and mascara for a look with fewer chemicals involved.
But lash extensions are the way to go if you want immediate results.
The lips are just as important as the rest of the face. Lip care may be in a slightly different genre, but the process is almost the same.
Exfoliate and moisturize. These are the two vital needs of the lips.
And how else to do this than to take a good lip scrub and lip balm and religiously include this in your nightly routine? You’ll immediately thank yourself in the morning!
Being kinder to your hair can sometimes hurt your pockets; still, you’ll be surprised by how it’s saving you from spending a lot more on damage repair.
If having long hair means getting visible split ends and constant breakages, we don’t want it.
Cut off a few inches every three months to keep your hair healthy and growing faster. But whether you’re having it trimmed or in it for a major chopping, haircuts will always improve your looks and your hair’s condition.
It doesn’t matter if you’re reviving your previous color, concealing the grays, or undergoing a drastic shift; hair transformations wouldn’t be complete without color adjustments.
Selecting the appropriate hair color is more than just browsing through Pinterest and scanning the pages of dye catalogs.
There are essential guides to take note of, and these consider relevant factors like your features and natural colors, not just trends.
Take the hair color wheel guide as an example.
Along with a haircut, hair coloring and hair toning are some of the overnight glow-ups you can achieve to refresh your look and make those manes look healthier and more vibrant.
From shampoos and conditioners to hair masks, oils, and whatnot — if you think chemically formulated products are powerful, wait ’til you experience all-natural alternatives.
There are products you can buy off the market and others that you can easily make and do at home. This may include applying coconut oil and aloe vera gel to keep the hair moisturized and strengthened.
Going natural isn’t solely found in tubes and bottles; you can also do it when styling! Limit hot tools and opt for heatless styling instead!
Here’s a sample video on doing heatless curls:
Soft, and shiny locks can be deceiving, but you can’t always check your scalp’s condition by looking in the mirror.
You can give your mane the ultimate glow up by targeting it straight to the source: the scalp.
Here are more steps to add to your hair care routine for that hair glow up you’re dreaming of.
Before diving deep into the beauty routine, run through your stash. You stumbled upon a growing pile of unused products, didn’t you?
Most of us tend to hoard new releases and replenish the empties simultaneously, only to stick to the ones we initially loved.
Sure, the extensive beauty products market can get us overjoyed, but always remember that expiration dates exist!
Keep your stash substantial and sustainable; it’ll save you the extra cost and space, and you can also help save the environment too!
Now that your vanity is decluttered, this is the perfect opportunity for you to sort out go-to’s and all the other products you saved for important occasions.
To avoid scattering products, put those that you usually use in places where you can easily get them. Or you can organize and group them based on their makeup category. Another way to organize them is by expiry dates.
Investing in sturdy train cases will help you carry and organize your essentials in style whenever there’s a need for traveling.
Whether you’re finding the right color match for your base and concealer or you’re bringing the right pop of warmth and color back to your face as per your undertone, it’s about time you step up your game and use the appropriate makeup shades.
Most makeup nowadays is inclusive and innovative, so it’s impossible not to find the right one.
This is also an excellent opportunity to explore different techniques and makeup looks.
How many hours have you spent watching makeup tutorials you know you’ll never try?
In this glow up journey, you’ll have to step outside the box and explore the things outside your usual routine.
Trying on different looks will give you a better sense of what suits you best and which aspects of the art of makeup you need to practice more.
If doing your makeup and switching your looks daily can be exhausting, think about how the skin underneath it all feels.
Letting the skin breathe and going on days solely on skin care can be beneficial and can give you the natural glow you never knew you had!
Even without this list, you know how refreshing mani-pedis can be. But think again if you’re not the type who often indulges in such.
At least treat yourself to a pamper session that involves nail cleaning and painting. Clean-looking nails can give you a sense of empowerment and being put together.
You can also pop a hand cream into your purse, apply it throughout the day for a silky touch, and smother your feet with cream before you go to bed.
Glowing up is all about spending quality time with yourself.
Begin with some of the easiest things to do. Imagine dipping into an aromatic, warm bath after a stressful day. Refreshing, isn’t it?
Adding rewarding baths to your regular self-care routine can improve your mental and emotional well-being.
It’s the perfect time to bring out the bath bombs and the bubble baths and light those scented candles that your friends and family gave you.
Enjoy some aromatherapy while submerging yourself in the diffused hydration and moisture in your tub.
If you truly want a glow up, you shouldn’t skimp on this one.
Moisturizing treatments don’t stop the moment you step out of the shower. You must lock them in using lotion, creams, body butter, and whatnot.
For total absorption and lasting smell, it’s ideal for letting it melt and seep in while your skin is still damp.
And don’t forget about its best partner: exfoliating.
You’ll be surprised by how you can extend the use of your daily essentials, such as coffee or sugar, and use them as DIY scrubs.
Looking for the perfect combo to a healthier-looking set of teeth? Keep your pearly whites clean and bright!
Cleaning and flossing are the basics. But for a game changer, invest in teeth-whitening sets.
Some brands and products offer at-home sets, strips, and pens that you can add to your routine for a blinding smile.
Don’t hesitate to consult professionals to know how your teeth are doing and what procedures need to be done.
To clear things out, you don’t necessarily have to lose extreme weight to glow up. But you need light workouts to sweat out, prevent yourself from bumming, and improve your stamina.
Whether it’s a 30-minute jog or walk first thing in the morning or getting on your feet and training with your favorite YouTube fitness gurus, the joyful movements that keep the heart healthily beating and the endorphins you release will change your outlook and life!
You might have heard of this over and over again, but if we were to make an overnight glow up checklist, this is the first one on the list.
But how does it exactly improve your look?
Our body is made up of 60% water, so from there, you can see why consuming approximately two gallons of water makes sense. It keeps our body hydrated and drives it to function properly.
Not drinking enough water can lead to all sorts of physical and mental problems; believe it or not, the effects can be tangible!
Water transforms you from the inside. Staying hydrated can improve your overall health, fight skin problems, boost your skin’s glow, and flush away toxins.
The mere thought of getting enough sleep makes most of us regret not napping as a child.
Yes, getting the recommended eight hours of sleep seems impossible if you’re a hustling adult. But keep this in your glow up list, and you’ll thank yourself for it!
If you can quickly point out the positive effects of going to bed early and getting ample Zs for one night, think how much of a glow up it’ll give you if you do it as a routine.
Beauty sleeps range from seven to nine hours; if it exceeds this, it’ll become unhealthy. But let’s put that thought aside. Getting the ideal hours can help you achieve a healthy balance and body.
Not to mention the wonders it can do to your mood, mind, skin, and hair!
Good posture is the number one silent confidence booster that anyone can have. But not everyone takes note of this.
Stand tall and do your stretches.
Maintaining a good posture is more than straightening your back, ditching the hunchback figure, and not slouching. It relieves neck and back problems, improves blood circulation, and promotes better digestion.
Are you aware of how much you spend ordering takeouts and eating out? While you’re out there thinking it’s saving prep time, you spend more cash and crash your diet.
By sparing some time cooking for yourself, you get to track your food intake. Incorporate healthy food into your diet, and try to cut the sugar.
One tip for making this easy is to plan and prepare your meal in batches when you have the time.
Once you’ve prepared everything, pop them in the freezer, and reheating becomes your new BFF.
While glow-ups usually happen during puberty, they can be natural or planned. There’s no age limit, and it definitely has no limitations.
Glowing up or transforming yourself means learning a new routine and unlearning past habits. The long-term and visible effects don’t happen overnight.
Changes can be slow or fast-paced, and the results may be gradual and permanent, but it’s safe to say that at least three to six months of self-love and reprogramming yourself can result in incredible transformation.
As much as we want to give you the secret to having a glow up checklist that works, there’s actually none.
Mind over matter — that’s one thing to remember.
You really have to set your mind to it. We understand it won’t be a smooth-sailing journey, but that’s the beauty of it.
Once you get the glow up of your dreams, you’ll get to look back at everything and appreciate the result and process.
