It comes after 20 women who knew Clarke in a professional capacity came forward and made allegations about him to The Guardian newspaper.

As a result, BAFTA said it was suspending the Doctor Who and Adulthood star's membership and recent Outstanding Contribution to British Film honour, while Sky TV announced they were stopping filming on Clarke's drama Bulletproof.

Clarke, 45, said he "vehemently" denies "any sexual misconduct or wrongdoing".

ITV said in a statement that it was "no longer appropriate" to broadcast the final episode of Viewpoint on its main channel - but it will be available for a limited time on the ITV Hub for "those who wish to seek it out."

Instead at 9pm on ITV a repeat episode of It'll Be Alright on the Night will air.

The ITV statement said: “ITV has a zero tolerance policy to bullying, harassment and victimisation and robust procedures in place to investigate and deal with any complaints. We strongly believe that everyone deserves to work in a supportive and safe environment.

“In light of the very serious nature of the allegations against Noel Clarke raised by 20 women in the Guardian’s report, ITV has decided it is no longer appropriate to broadcast the final episode of the drama Viewpoint on ITV main channel this evening.

“We are mindful that some of our viewers have already invested four hours of their time over the past four nights in following this thriller which was due to conclude this evening, and they have yet to see the final episode.

"As such we plan to make it available on ITV Hub tonight for a limited time for any viewers who wish to seek it out, and watch its conclusion.”

Clarke "vehemently" denies any sexual misconduct or criminal wrongdoing, but on Friday afternoon apologised if some of his actions "affected people in ways I did not intend or realise"

He said in a statement to the Press Association: “I vehemently deny any sexual misconduct or criminal wrongdoing.

“Recent reports however have made it clear to me that some of my actions have affected people in ways I did not intend or realise.

“To those individuals, I am deeply sorry. I will be seeking professional help to educate myself and change for the better.”

Clarke starred as detective Martin Young in Viewpoint, which has been airing over successive nights in the prime-time 9pm slot on ITV since Monday.

Friday night was due to be the show's finale evening - where viewers would get answers to the thriller's big question of what had happened to missing teacher Gemma Hillman (Amy Wren) and who was involved in her disappearance?

The Manchester-set drama had brought together an all-star cast for the action, including Coronation Street's Catherine Tyldesley as prim and proper Kate Tuckman, former Hollyoaks star Bronagh Waugh as straight-talking cop Stella Beckett and Vera Drake star Phil Davis as DI Liam Cox, head of the police surveillance unit.
