It comes after 20 women who knew Clarke in a professional capacity came forward and made allegations about him to The Guardian newspaper.

As a result, BAFTA said it was suspending the Doctor Who and Adulthood star's membership and recent Outstanding Contribution to British Film honour, while Sky TV announced they were stopping filming on Clarke's drama Bulletproof.

Clarke, 45, said he "vehemently" denies "any sexual misconduct or wrongdoing".

ITV said in a statement that it was "no longer appropriate" to broadcast the final episode of Viewpoint on its main channel - but it will be available for a limited time on the ITV Hub for "those who wish to seek it out."

Instead at 9pm on ITV a repeat episode of It'll Be Alright on the Night will air.

The ITV statement said: “ITV has a zero tolerance policy to bullying, harassment and victimisation and robust procedures in place to investigate and deal with any complaints. We strongly believe that everyone deserves to work in a supportive and safe environment.

“In light of the very serious nature of the allegations against Noel Clarke raised by 20 women in the Guardian’s report, ITV has decided it is no longer appropriate to broadcast the final episode of the drama Viewpoint on ITV main channel this evening.

“We are mindful that some of our viewers have already invested four hours of their time over the past four nights in following this thriller which was due to conclude this evening, and they have yet to see the final episode.

"As such we plan to make it available on ITV Hub tonight for a limited time for any viewers who wish to seek it out, and watch its conclusion.”

Clarke "vehemently" denies any sexual misconduct or criminal wrongdoing, but on Friday afternoon apologised if some of his actions "affected people in ways I did not intend or realise"

He said in a statement to the Press Association: “I vehemently deny any sexual misconduct or criminal wrongdoing.

“Recent reports however have made it clear to me that some of my actions have affected people in ways I did not intend or realise.

“To those individuals, I am deeply sorry. I will be seeking professional help to educate myself and change for the better.”

Clarke starred as detective Martin Young in Viewpoint, which has been airing over successive nights in the prime-time 9pm slot on ITV since Monday.

Friday night was due to be the show's finale evening - where viewers would get answers to the thriller's big question of what had happened to missing teacher Gemma Hillman (Amy Wren) and who was involved in her disappearance?

The Manchester-set drama had brought together an all-star cast for the action, including Coronation Street's Catherine Tyldesley as prim and proper Kate Tuckman, former Hollyoaks star Bronagh Waugh as straight-talking cop Stella Beckett and Vera Drake star Phil Davis as DI Liam Cox, head of the police surveillance unit.

The new five-part thriller was all set to come to an end on ITV on Friday night but after, allegations of serious misconduct were levelled at its lead actor Noel Clarke, the channel took the decision to pull it from schedules.

BAFTA winner Clarke, also star of Sky drama Bulletproof, was accused of sexual harassment and bullying in allegations reported in Thursday's Guardian and, hours before Viewpoint's final episode was due to air, ITV released a statement saying: “ITV has a zero tolerance policy to bullying, harassment and victimisation and robust procedures in place to investigate and deal with any complaints. We strongly believe that everyone deserves to work in a supportive and safe environment.

"In light of the very serious nature of the allegations against Noel Clarke raised by 20 women in the Guardian’s report, ITV has decided it is no longer appropriate to broadcast the final episode of the drama Viewpoint on ITV main channel this evening."

The ITV statement ended with the news that Viewpoint's final part would be available to watch on ITV Hub for "a limited time", with it later reported viewers would have until the end of Sunday, May 2 to watch the last part or the whole series in its entirety.

However, unaware there was such a short time frame to watch it, irate viewers have not been left disappointed not only on it being swiftly removed from the Hub but also deleted from their Sky planners, despite the fact they'd set series links for the whole show or downloaded it all, not just the cancelled final part.

One annoyed viewer and Sky subscriber took to Twitter to rant: "Downloaded #Viewpoint but won’t bother watching since my sky box has auto deleted them. Surely if on the box leave them on for longer than 3 days?"

A member of Sky's Help Team swiftly responded to the tweet to reply: "Hi, any content that is removed from your Sky box is due to licensing periods expiring. This is an ITV show and ITV control Catch Up & On Demand aspects of their service. They may have more info if you do have any further questions relating to programming on ITV."

Taking aim at ITV, the same viewer replied: Thank you Sky team. @ITV why bother having a catch up service if the programme deletes so quickly."

An equally annoyed viewer tweeted: "After watching 4 episodes of viewpoint, I downloaded episode 5 after itv took it off, only to find out that sky had deleted my planner episode."

Other fans of Viewpoint told those affected they could find episode 5 on YouTube, but the link now shows an error message.

An ITV spokesperson said: “ITV has a zero tolerance policy to bullying, harassment and victimisation and robust procedures in place to investigate and deal with any complaints. We strongly believe that everyone deserves to work in a supportive and safe environment.

ITV’s decision follows Sky suspending work with Clarke, who stars in the Comcast-owned broadcaster’s hit series Bulletproof, which was preparing for a fourth season.

Deadline understands that Viewpoint producer, Banijay-owned Tiger Aspect, was not made aware of any allegations of misconduct during Clarke’s time recording the surveillance series.

It’s not just ITV that has been doing head-scratching over Viewpoint today. Deadline hears that there are concerns over at Banijay Rights that the allegations will damage international sales. The series was one of its hot picks at MipTV.

The Guardian published a thunderbolt of a story on Thursday night about Clarke, in which 20 women leveled allegations of misconduct against the Bulletproof and Adulthood actor. The deeply reported investigation features various accusations — some from women on the record — about sexual harassment, unwanted touching, taking and sharing sexually explicit pictures and videos, and bullying.

Clarke emphatically denies the allegations. He told The Guardian: “If anyone who has worked with me has ever felt uncomfortable or disrespected, I sincerely apologise. I vehemently deny any sexual misconduct or wrongdoing and intend to defend myself against these false allegations.”
