I make sure not to neglect old friends while enjoying new ones. Setting aside time for both helps. Also, I sometimes mix them together in gatherings, so no one feels replaced.

I measure it by how I feel after spending time with them. If I feel lighter, happier, or calmer, then I know they value me. If I constantly feel drained, ignored, or used, then maybe I am just convenient for them, not truly valued.
