I stayed in BSF hostel during training. Food and accommodation were free. This reduced cost and made life easier in starting years.

From my experience, SSC MTS has very high number of seats compared to other exams. But job role is different. If you want clerical post, then CHSL is better. Both exams are suitable for 12th pass candidates. Vacancies depend on government requirements each year.
