    I learned the hard way. I bought a "5G phone" but my SIM was 4G. To really know:1. Put a 5G SIM. 2. Be in a 5G coverage area. 3. Check status bar—if it shows "5G" instead of LTE/4G, then it’s real. Some phones support 5G hardware but require software updates to enable it.
