You have to meet in the middle. If one partner prefers talking directly and the other prefers thinking first, then agree on a system. For example, the thinker can ask for time, and then later sit down for a clear talk. Respecting styles is as important as speaking.

For me the biggest warning is control. If one person always wants to know where you are, who you talk with, and gets angry when you have personal space, it’s not healthy. Another sign is when arguments always end with you apologizing, even when you are not wrong.
