What documents should I keep ready before filing my ITR before September 16, 2025?
I keep everything in a folder before filing. For me, it is Form 16, Form 26AS, and medical insurance premium receipts. Preparing early avoids last-minute stress, especially when portal traffic is high near deadline.
In general, three things are most important: income proof, deduction proof, and tax credit proof. If you collect these, filing becomes easy. Don’t forget Aadhaar number and pre-validated bank account, otherwise you may face trouble later.
You should keep these documents ready: - Form 16 from your employer - Form 26AS and AIS (Annual Information Statement) - Bank statements for interest income - TDS certificates - Investment proofs (LIC, PPF, ELSS, etc.) - Housing loan certificates if applicable Having them beforehand helps avoid errors and delays.
It depends on your income type. Salaried people mainly need Form 16 and investment proofs. Self-employed will need books of accounts, GST details, and bank statements. Capital gain earners must have broker statements. Always cross-check with Form 26AS to match tax credits.
