What is ammonium chloride?

Ammonium chloride is a chemical compound. It looks like a white powder. Or sometimes little crystals, like salt. It is a type of salt, in fact. An acid salt. It is made from a reaction of two things: ammonia and hydrochloric acid. The chemical formula for it is NH₄Cl.

It has many uses, it is very interesting. It is used for the farms. It is a fertilizer that helps the plants grow. Also, it is in some medicine for a cough. And in food! This is strange, yes? It gives a very salty taste to the black candy, the licorice. They call this salmiak licorice. It is also inside some batteries. And it is used for cleaning metals before, how you say, soldering. The old name for it is sal ammoniac. So, it is a very useful powder.
