After 3 memorable seasons the Prime Era at Jackson State is over. Deion Sanders has been officially named the new head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes.

Deion Sanders was named head coach in September 21, 2020 and has a 27-5 record as a head coach. Jackson State won a program record 11 games in 2021 and this season they are 12-0 going into the Celebration Bowl.

Jackson State Athletics Director Ashley Robinson released this statement thanking Deion Sanders for his time at JSU. Saying in part,"

Coach Prime raised the profile of Jackson State, the SWAC and HBCUs in his short time. Among the highlights during his tenure include:

-A SWAC Championship in 2021, the first for JSU since 2017

-An undefeated regular season in 2022, the first for JSU and the first for a SWAC team since 1984

-Bringing in top recruits Travis Hunter and Kevin Coleman Jr

-ESPN College Gameday coming to Jackson State for the first time ever

Jackson State won their second straight SWAC Championship and will play for the Celebration Bowl for the second year in a row against North Carolina Central on Dec. 17 in Atlanta.

No confirmation as of right now if Sanders will coach in that game.

After the win over Southern in the SWAC Championship game he notified the team of his departure and endorsed wide receivers coach and JSU alum TC Taylor as candidate to take over the program.
