which jazmin bean song are you?
Jasmine Adams (professionally known as Jazmin Bean) (born February 7, 2003) is an English singer, songwriter, social media personality, and makeup artist. Based in London, they first gained attention online for their "extreme" makeup looks. They self-released their debut extended play Worldwide Torture in 2019, which was later reissued in 2020 through Interscope & Island Records.
Bean's mother, Angela Adams, is a drummer and former member of the punk rock band Fluffy. [3] Their father is singer Ginger Wildheart. They have Filipino heritage.[4] They have stated that they had "minimal to no friends" and were "often isolated" during high school.[5]
Bean began performing music at age 15. Their first live performance involved them singing while rubbing chicken liver on themself at a bar.[4][6]
Bean released their debut single, "Worldwide Torture", in 2019.[3] They self-released their debut extended play, Worldwide Torture, in October 2019, under their personal label Aswang Birthday Cake. It was later reissued by Island and Interscope Records in November 2020 with six additional tracks.[7][6] A music video for their song "Saccharine", taken from Worldwide Torture, was also released in October 2019.[8] They've released solo singles, including "Hello Kitty" in December 2019 and[9] "Yandere" in October 2020, and collaboration singles "Princess Castle" featuring Cottontail[10][7] and "Monster Truck" featuring Zheani were both released in November 2020.[2]
Their next single, titled "R U Looking 4 Me Now" was released in July 2021. [11]
Jazmin promoted another single called "Puppy Pound" via an Instagram post, where fans could text a mobile number on a 'lost dog' poster to sign up for updates for their music. [12] The record was released on March 25, 2022, along with a music video on YouTube. The video was directed by Shan Phearon and Jazmin themself, and the single has amassed over 2 million streams on Spotify. They also released merch following the single 5 days later.
Bean stated on their TikTok account that their next project will be more pop focused rather than metal like their previous album was.
After teasing snippets through Instagram and TikTok, Bean released "Carnage" featuring Lucy Loone on November 18, 2022. A music video was also released on Youtube the same day. [13]
Bean became known on social media for their "extreme", "doll-like" makeup looks and pastel goth style, which they have described as "genderless monster".[14][15][10] They first started doing makeup as an early teenager while trying to recreate the looks of their Monster High dolls.[6] They run Cult Candy Cosmetics, a cruelty-free, vegan makeup brand.[14][9]
Bean's music has been described as pop metal,[16] trap metal,[17] hyperpop,[9] alt-pop,[7] grunge,[4] and horror pop.[6] Paper's Jael Goldfine described their music as "freaky", "eerie", and "genre-bending".[8] They have stated that their music is inspired by film soundtracks, including those of the 2019 horror film Midsommar and the 2005 fantasy film Corpse Bride.[10]
Bean has stated that their style is inspired by Hello Kitty, Aswangs, Fraggle Rock, and Tim Burton films, and they have described it as a form of escapism.[4][3]
A pop-up exhibition titled "R U Looking 4 Me Now" was opened from late November to early December of 2021 in Harajuku, Japan. The pop-up was in collaboration with Hysteric Glamour and featured behind the scenes props from their music videos and their own art.
Bean is on the autism spectrum. They are agender and use they/them pronouns.[18][19][6] They sometimes wear a chest binder,[18] and in April 2021 announced plans to undergo top surgery.[20] They are based in London.[4] In June 2022, they announced that they had been in rehab for a ketamine addiction and were on the road to recovery. [21] They have also stated that they were dealing with eating disorders and trauma from child grooming they experienced.
So I like to see the chronology of the songs as a story or an indirect Jazmin has given us. First, R U Looking 4 Me Now was released last year, at that time I'm pretty sure Jazmin had intentions to release it on the album. The lyrics talk about acknowledging traumas and heal from them, while looking back at who was the abuser and in this case asking them, "are you looking for me now?" as the listener is doing better without them pestering.
But then as we know now they have been dealing with a drug addiction and just got out of rehab. Puppy Pound was released before that, in March of this year. If you pay close attention to the lyrics, not only talks about feeling discarded by a loved one, but I also interpret this as Jazmin's pleading for getting out the pound they're in, in this case their addiction.
That leads us to Carnage, their first single released while being clean. This song is a new start for Jazmin, who has been fighting for this change and won't let anyone making them feel like it was in vain. Jazmin told us they are considering making an album of 12-15 songs. (first 14-15, then people suggesting them 10-12) They also talked about 4-year-old work, so that means the songs have been in the works since 2019, right after WWT, so that is why the style of these singles are similar to WWT. They also said Bee Stung (unreleased song) won't be on JB1, but may be released in the future.
Jazmin is just evolving as an artist, they don't want to be known only by WWT EP or their most popular song, which is Hello Kitty. And that is completely valid, I'm personally excited about some snippets like Cunt, Bones Breaking and Philophobia. Maybe they'll put this song in a deluxe version, or maybe they're staying as singles, which would be what would happen and that's okay.
Jazmin doesn't feel they fit on the album, and that's fine, it's better than having them never released. I'm very proud of Jazmin for speaking up about their addiction, not only they evolved in their music, or makeup, but they did too as a person. They showed me thru their songs that it's ok to be myself! <3 so yeah, let's all wait for their album, they've been working so hard to get where they are now.
