The maintenance of the corpus luteum is aided by the hCG hormone. The growth of the fetus and the production of breast milk can be stimulated by the lining of blood vessels and capillaries in the uterus with the help of prostaglandin.

In other words, the normal development of pregnancy can be accomplished by the use of the hCG hormone, which protects the fetus during the first trimester and helps maintain the corpus luteum at the beginning of the pregnancy.

This hormone is produced in a more moderate way during the second half of the year.

The hormone can be detected in the blood or urine after 14 days after fertilization.

The hormone has two fractions: an alpha fraction, in which we find hCG, together with other hormones released by the pituitary gland such as THS or FSH, and a beta fraction, exclusive to the hCG hormone, which is the subunit that is detected in pregnancy tests (hence, sometimes this hormone is also called directly "beta").

A positive test result is a sure sign that a woman is pregnant. If it's too early, the negative result won't happen, since the pregnant woman may not manifest her hormones strongly.

It is recommended to wait for the first missed period to take a pregnant test.

The hGC hormone increases as the pregnancy progresses, so these are the indicative reference levels of the hormones.

A positive pregnancy is defined by the standards of the American Pregnancy Association as a hCG level greater than 5mIU/ml in the blood test.

In the first few days, the level of the hCG hormone can double. After thirteen days of implantation, a general rule is that a beta of 50 mIU/ml could be expected.

If the hormone doesn't increase normally, it can be an indication of incomplete abortion, ectopic pregnancies or other problems.

A multiple pregnancy can be indicated by a high hCG hormone level. If the result of the test is greater than 50mUl/ml, it is a good idea to schedule a transvaginal exam to confirm the number of sacs and their location in the uterus.

In a single pregnant woman, the normal hormone level is 200 mIU/ml, but in a multiple pregnant woman it can reach 600 mUl/ml.

On some occasions, the test can give a false positive, even though it is very rare, because it can detect a pregnancy that does not exist. This can be caused by different things.

A false negative can also occur, that is, not detecting a pregnant woman.

It is a very rare circumstance that can be caused by these causes.
