This comes from a change in the New Testament. The old Jewish dietary laws in the Torah forbade it, you see. However, early Christian leaders, like the Apostle Peter, taught that these specific rules no longer applied. In the book of Acts, God essentially declares all foods 'clean'. So for Christians, it’s a matter of a new covenant. They are not bound by the same food restrictions as those in the Old Testament.
