Why shabnam killed her family?

From what I read, it was about her lover, Saleem. Her family was dead against them getting married. I reckon it's 'cause they were from different backgrounds. They saw her family as a big obstacle to their relationship. So they killed everyone just to be together. It seems they also wanted the family property. It’s such a shocking and horrible story, really. What a terrible thing to do to your own mob.
