How to hang foil balloons on wall?

Are you looking to skip the helium and need to know how to hang balloons on the wall? You’ve come to the right place!

Whether it’s one balloon, a banner, adding decorative touches, and/or creating a game using balloons, there’s several different options for hanging balloons on the wall. And, it doesn’t matter if you’re using latex or foil balloons.

From regular household products to common items you can find at any store, I’ll walk you through what you can use, what works best, and even some items you shouldn’t use. Read on to learn how to hang balloons on the wall!

I found these little balloon glue adhesive dots at the dollar store! It does not get any cheaper than that, and they work!

Great For: Latex and Foil Balloons

To use balloon glue, keep the adhesive dot on the paper – if you try to take it off, it will stick to you and become unusable. Then, stick the dot on the balloon and peel the paper off.

Stick the balloon on the wall – done!

It is super sticky and effective! And, super cheap!

Because they are so sticky, they are not easily removed from the balloon, so make sure you have it in the right spot!

Otherwise, you can’t go wrong with these – they worked even on bigger foil balloons. In the event you need to cover more surface area, just use more than one!

Double siding mounting tape is an inexpensive, effective way to hang balloons on the wall.

Great For: Latex and Foil Balloons

To use this product, simply cut small strips and stick to the balloon where it will hold best (usually in the middle for latex, or top and bottom for foil balloons). Put the balloon on the wall and press gently.

It has just the right amount of stickiness. It will stick nicely to the balloon and the wall and will peel off just as easily, which means no wall damage!

The other great thing about using this to hang balloons on the wall is that it will add dimension, because it is thicker.

The best part is it costs only a few dollars, and it lasts on your walls for hours, even days!

Because it is not overly sticky, you can’t reapply it too many times. When you stick it on the wall – try to make sure it’s in the right place!

Packing tape is one of those items people usually have at home already, which makes it super convenient and cost effective!

Great For: Latex and Foil Balloons

To use this product, cut a medium sized strip of tape, wrap it into a circle (sticky side out) and stick it to the balloon. Apply gentle pressure when sticking the balloon to the wall.

It lasts on the wall for days!

Also, a little bit goes a long way! No need for multiple strips of tape to get the balloon to stay on the wall.

Packing tape is very sticky, which is why it is long lasting. There is a small chance it could remove paint, so take care with removal if you choose this option.

Also, be careful if you need to remove the packing tape from the balloon. Sometimes this can pop the balloon!

There are several different options of Scotch tape that can be used to hang balloons on the wall. All of them are effective in holding balloons on the wall.

Great For: Latex and Foil Balloons

Just like packing tape, cut a medium sized strip of tape, wrap it in a circle, and apply to the balloon. You may need more than one, depending on the type of balloon.

It’s something that everybody has on hand, which makes it convenient.

Scotch tape offers a wall safe product. The normal tape shouldn’t cause any wall damage, but by using the wall safe tape, you can feel even better about using tape on your walls.

It will last on the wall for days!

Depending on what your needs are and the type of balloon, you may need to use more of the tape to get the balloon to stay on the wall. For a latex balloon, I used two strips to hold it.

Painters tape is probably the most safe-to-use tape for your walls. After all, it is designed to be safely removed without any damage when painting.

Masking tape will work similarly.

Great For: Latex and Foil Balloons

Cut a medium sized strip of tape, wrap it in a circle, and apply to the middle of the balloon, or where applicable. Press gently to the wall.

It is sticky enough to last on the wall for days! And, a little bit goes a long way – one strip will do.

There aren’t too many negative things to say about using painters tape! It is a little more expensive than normal tape, but still pretty comparable.

You can find several different versions of adhesive mounting squares in stores. It’s important to use a product that is designed for walls.

Great For: Latex and Foil Balloons

You simply peel off and stick!

They are really easy to use and inexpensive!

And, as long as you use the right type, there will be no damage to the walls.

First, because they are small, more squares are needed to hold the balloon up.

Like most double sided tape, these squares are thin. Because they add no dimension and cover little surface area, it will make it harder for the squares to hold a balloon to the wall.

Second, they do not stay as long.

I used two squares on a latex balloon and it fell off the wall within 1-2 hours. If you want the balloons to hold up for longer periods of time, you will need to use more, which is not as cost effective.

However, if you already have these on hand, they certainly will do the job!

Command strips are an excellent option for hanging anything on a wall, including balloons. It’s sticky enough to hold the balloons and is specifically designed to be damage-free.

There are many different options of Command strips. But, balloons are lightweight, so I used the Command poster strips, and it worked very well!

Great For: Latex and Foil Balloons

Depending on the size and type of the balloon, you may need one or two strips per balloon. Simply place at the top (and maybe the bottom too) or the middle, depending on the type of balloon, and apply to the wall.

They are easy to use and will hold your balloon up for days!

A little goes a long way! One small strip held up a latex balloon. I used two for the foil balloon, but one at the top would have sufficed.

While, Command strips are intentionally designed to be removed from the wall without damage, they are more on the pricy side. So, if you’re hanging a lot of balloons, you might want to go with a more cost effective option!

Pins are a great way to add fun balloon accents to your wall. They are sturdy and easy to use.

Push pins and thumb tacks can be used in the same way. Thumb tacks will not stick out as far and will be less noticeable if that’s a concern.

Great For: Latex Balloons

The only way you can attach a balloon to a wall using a pin is to insert the pin below the knot. Group the knots together if you want to bunch the balloons on the wall (see below).

Both types of pins are inexpensive and will hold your balloon as long as the balloon lasts!

They come in many different colors, so feel free to match the pins to your balloon colors, or use clear.

The biggest downside of using pins is that they will create holes in your wall.

Also, it’s important to note that they do not work great for foil balloons. Even if the foil balloon comes with tabs for hanging, they are typically too bulky to successfully pin to the wall.

Ball point sewing pins will work the same way as a push pin or a thumb tack. They’re much smaller and even less obvious than thumb tacks.

Great For: Latex Balloons

Carefully insert the pin below the balloon knot and into the wall!

They come in all different kinds of colors. You can match them to your balloons to be even less noticeable.

Plus, they make significantly smaller holes in the wall than push pins or tacks!

They are weaker than a push pin, because they are thinner.

It is a little bit more difficult to insert them into the wall. You have to be careful when pushing them in so they do not bend.

Additionally, like push pins and thumb tacks, they do not work well for foil balloons.

Hooks are great for foil balloons that come with hanging tabs. Sure, you can stick the tail of a latex balloon through a hook, but it’s not ideal.

You can find several different options for hooks. And, in a pinch you could even use nails or screws. However, this will most definitely create unnecessary holes in your wall.

Great For: Foil Balloons

It’s as easy as sticking the hook on the wall and hanging the balloon on its tabs.

They’re easy to use and can be found at any store.

While this is certainly an effective way to hang balloons, it is not the best way. You can see in the picture how the balloon awkwardly floats away from the wall.

Hooks certainly work, but they may not be the most appealing way to hang balloons. Not to mention, it would be more expensive.

Hanging your balloons from a string is a great option for hanging balloons on the wall, especially foil balloon banners. It can work with latex, but it works particularly great for foil balloons.

This option allows for many alternatives. You can use string, fishline, ribbon, twine, curling ribbon, or yarn.

Mini clothespins are a great way to hook the balloon onto the string, but you could also use safety pins, or even paper clips.

Great For: Latex and Foil Balloons

To install, hang the string across the wall and hook the balloons on the string in the desired order.

It makes it easier to create a uniform looking banner or design.

Also, because the balloons are being attached to the string, there is less product being attached to the wall. This also makes for fast and easy cleanup!

It may require a little bit more materials, but it certainly is worth it for the effect!

This option might seem a little bit “out there.” But, under the right circumstances, Velcro might be the right way to go!

If you need an entire wall covered or you have a lot of balloons to attach to the wall for a game, this could work to cover more surface area.

Great For: Latex and Foil Balloons

Run a strip (or multiple strips) of adhesive Velcro along the wall, attach small pieces of Velcro to the balloons and stick!

This has a possibility to be a big time saver!

It’s easy to use, and comes in several different sizes.

Velcro is a little bit more expensive than using a tape product. But, not by much, so depending on how many balloons you have to hang, it may be worth it!

Some things just aren’t going to work, like craft putty. It’s nowhere near sticky enough; don’t waste your time with it!

Also, balloons aren’t meant to last forever. So, you don’t want to use anything permanent.

Anything that is extra strong, made for outdoor use, or advertised to be permanent are probably not good options. Balloons are not that heavy, so there’s no need for anything that might damage your walls.

Duct tape is among these types of products, because, while it is an effective way to hang balloons on a wall, it will most likely damage your walls. It will leave you with a frustrating patching job – I know from experience!

All of these products are relatively inexpensive and will successfully hang a balloon on the wall.

For foil balloon banners, my recommended option is to use string (or fishing line) and mini clothespins. It is a fun and easy way to convey a message with balloons!
