How to update windows 10 update manually?
Manually updating Windows 10 is pretty straightforward! Here's how I do it:
- Click the Start button and go to Settings (the gear icon)
- Select Update & Security → Windows Update
- Click "Check for updates" - this will search for available updates
- If updates are found, click "Download and install"
If you want more control, you can also use the Microsoft Update Catalog:
- Go to https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com
- Search for the specific update you need by KB number
- Download the .msu file and run it as administrator
Pro tip: Sometimes if updates are stuck, I use the Windows Update Troubleshooter (search for it in the Start menu) which fixes common update problems automatically.
Also, make sure you have a stable internet connection and enough free disk space - updates can fail if you're low on space!
As an IT guy, here's my preferred method for manual Windows 10 updates:
Method 1 - Through Settings (easiest for most users): - Windows Key + I → Update & Security → Check for updates
Method 2 - Using Windows Update Assistant: 1. Download the Update Assistant from Microsoft's official website 2. Run the tool and follow the prompts 3. It will handle the entire process for you
Method 3 - Using Media Creation Tool (good for major version updates): 1. Download Media Creation Tool from Microsoft 2. Choose "Upgrade this PC now" 3. It will download the latest Windows 10 version and install it
What I always tell my clients: Create a system restore point before major updates, and back up your important files just in case something goes wrong. Microsoft's update process has gotten much more reliable, but better safe than sorry!
The whole process usually takes 20-45 minutes depending on your internet speed and how outdated your system is.
