is uzi they them?
In July 2022, the rapper took to Instagram to announce their new pronouns.
In 2021, Instagram launched a new feature that allowed users to add their preferred pronouns to bios as a way to be inclusive of gender identity.
Lil Uzi Vert previously went by he/him but shocked fans in July 2022 after they changed their pronouns to they/them in their Instagram bio.
The change in pronouns led fans to believe that they now identify as non-binary because it came the same week that International Non-Binary People's Day is celebrated, according to ET.
However, the artist has not made a statement about changing their pronouns.
In recent years, many have changed their gender pronouns to reflect their gender identity.
Popular pronouns include he/him, she/her, and they/them.
They/them pronouns are typically used by those who identify as non-binary, meaning that they do not identify as male or female.
Mary Emily Ohara, a communications officer at GLAAD, who also identifies as non-binary, told NPR that using they/them pronouns is "just a little bit of a switch" since "they" is already commonly used when talking about someone we don't know personally.
"You're just asking someone to not act as if they don't know you, but to remove gendered language from their vocabulary when they're talking about you," O'Hara said.
"I identify as nonbinary myself and I appear feminine. People often assume that my pronouns are she/her. So they will use those. And I'll just gently correct them and say, hey, you know what, my pronouns are they/them just FYI, for future reference or something like that."
Other popular celebrities who use they/them pronouns include Demi Lovato, Sam Smith, Sara Ramirez, and Brigette Lundy-Paine.
Along with changing their pronouns, Lil Uzi Vert also announced a new EP, titled Red & White.
The new EP is expected to drop in the coming weeks, ahead of The Pink Tape, which will be Lil Uzi Vert's first album since Eternal Atake dropped in 2020.
Lil Uzi Vert's pronouns are now they/them, a spokesperson for the rapper confirmed to Pitchfork. Lil Uzi Vert had recently adjusted their Instagram bio to include the pronouns. And, shortly after the bio change, the rapper Yeat tweeted, “Yo they 🤾🏼♀️,” to which Lil Uzi Vert replied, “Yo yeat.”
The rapper is yet to speak publicly about their gender identity, but a spokesperson confirmed the change to Pitchfork earlier this week. Shortly after they updated their Instagram bio, the rapper Yeat tweeted “Yo they,” to which Lil Uzi replied, “Yo Yeat.”

Lil Uzi is one of many artists who have adopted they/them pronouns or come out as non-binary in recent years. The list includes the likes of Halsey, Demi Lovato and Kehlani, while closer to home, Australian singer-songwriter G Flip has been open about their identity over the last year, releasing latest single ‘Waste of Space’ last week to coincide with International Non-Binary People’s Day.
In a heartfelt note shared alongside the song, G Flip discussed how, after coming out as non-binary, they received a flood of messages – many positive, such as parents reaching out to ask how to support their non-binary child, but also a lot that were negative, hateful or invalidating.
“As I receive more and more of these messages, I realise how much education the world needs when it comes to gender identity. Even though I wasn’t sure if I’d ever release this song, the more I thought about it, I realised how much the world needs this song,” they wrote at the time.
“Representation in the media matters. I, along with so many other gender non-conforming souls, are here. We are present and we are going to make noise so that this generation and future generations aren’t ostracised for being their beautiful, authentic selves.”
Earlier this month, Lil Uzi Vert announced they were readying an EP titled Red & White, which will serve as a precursor to forthcoming album Pink Tape. Their last studio album was 2020’s Eternal Atake.

In the middle of promoting a new EP, dropping endless ‘fit-checks and giving fans teasers into some brand new music, rapper Lil Uzi Vert decided to drop one more bit of news on their fans — they’re changing their pronouns.
Over the weekend, Uzi updated their Instagram profile to include preferred pronouns next to their name, which they listed as “they/them.” People who use they/them pronouns traditionally identify as gender nonconforming, non-binary or genderqueer. At press time, Uzi has not yet confirmed just how they identify.
They did, however, seem to subtly embrace their pronouns across social media. On Sunday (July 17), fellow rapper Yeat simply tweeted the phrase “Yo they” with an emoji of a woman playing handball next to it. In a cheeky reply, Uzi simply responded with “Yo yeat,” and a saluting emoji.
