Should Tata have introduced a turbo petrol option with the Punch Facelift?

Yes, absolutely. A turbo petrol option would make the Punch Facelift much more exciting for young drivers. Right now, the 1.2L petrol is fine for city use, but on highways it feels underpowered. If Tata introduced a 1.0L turbo with around 100–110 hp, then Punch could directly compete with cars like Nexon base trims or Venue. So I think this was a missed opportunity.

I don’t think turbo was necessary. Turbo engines increase price and maintenance cost. The Punch is popular because it is simple, reliable, and fuel-efficient. If Tata introduced turbo, it would confuse customers and increase service cost. So keeping things simple was a smart move.

Maybe Tata wanted to keep turbo option for a future model. Or maybe they want to keep Punch separate from Nexon. So while turbo would have been good, I understand why they avoided it.
