I think social media is overhyped in affiliate marketing. Yes, you can get followers, but conversions are often low. Blogs and email lists are much more stable. I use social media mainly for brand awareness, not for direct affiliate sales.

Affiliate marketing is about promoting with a unique link and getting commission per sale. Influencer marketing is when a brand pays you upfront to promote to your audience. One is performance-based, the other is sponsorship-based.
