A total of 14 teams made it into the tournament – 7 from the AFC and 7 from the NFC.
With the regular season now over, the playoff field and bracket is set and these are the teams progressing:
AFC Playoff Teams
–
NFC Playoff Teams
Those 14 teams play off for the right to make it to the Super Bowl. This right here is the beauty of pro football. Unlike other major sports (soccer’s Premier League for example), the regular-season record helps, but it is not the deciding factor in success. Once the tournament starts it is sudden death for every single team.
For starters the top seed in each conference receives a first-round bye – crucial in getting players healthy in time for the games that matter the most. Those top seeds also play at home throughout the postseason until the Super Bowl – assuming they advance.
The basic rule during the postseason is that whichever team is seeded highest plays at home.
The starting point in each conference for Wild Card Weekend is this:
For the Divisional Playoffs each conference looks like this:
For the Conference Championships it is this:
Just like last season, it all gets underway with Super Wild Card weekend, which commences this coming Saturday.
DAZN breaks down the full playoff schedule and the road to Super Bowl LVII at the State Farm Stadium in Arizona.
The NFL playoffs start on Saturday, January 14 when the Seattle Seahawks travel to the San Francisco 49ers.
The game will get underway at 4:30 p.m. ET / 9:30 p.m. GMT.
This upcoming weekend sees six teams from both the AFC and NFC battle it out on Super Wild Card Weekend for a place in the divisional round.
Unlike previous seasons where two teams receive a first round bye, it's just the number one seed in each conference who are given the week off. For 2022, the AFC's Kansas City Chiefs and NFC's Philadelphia Eagles are awarded the bye.
Once the wildcard games conclude, the three winners from each conference will advance to the divisional round and then those victorious in the division round will compete for their respective conference championships. Whichever team is crowned AFC and NFC conference champion will play at Super Bowl LVII.
