Mount Kenya university was given a Letter of Interim Authority as a University in 2008 and was granted full charter in the year 2011 by the President of Kenya H.E Mwai Kibaki.

Mount Kenya university was the first private university to launch an undergraduate programme in pharmacy and also in clinical medicine both of which have undergone full cycle.

It is through the lesson learnt in these pioneer programmes in health sciences and the audit of the available supporting academic resources, the management deemed it fit to start the MB.Ch.B program.
