Why fast for lent?
Fasting is a way of abstaining from food and drink, and it was done by Jesus Christ when he was preparing to pray.
Jesus gives some 'clues' on how to live a fast in the bible. He speaks to us about the proper way to live it in the reading of Matthew 6, telling us not to walk with our heads down.
On the other hand, the presbyter added, "fasting does not consist only in abstaining from eating any food, but in showing solidarity with the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable, and even more so at this time Pope Francis invites us, both the On Ash Wednesday, like Good Friday, let's fast asking God to stop all wars in Ukraine."
Fasting is a tradition of the Christian faith, which involves eating a single strong meal a day, as a form of penance, and is intended to move away from the materialistic lifestyle.
The sacrifice that believers make must be considered a complete meal or main dish because it contains a lot of vegetables and fruit.
When asked who is obligated to fast, Father Alberto said that people over the age of 60 are not obligated because they don't have to have breakfast and take medicine.
He said that other people with a particular health condition, like people with diabetes, are not forced to fast.
Children, adolescents, pregnant or lactating women should not do that because they would be compromising their energy and resources.
The reference is made to "eating on the side of the poor and vulnerable" if people are asked to eat fish and not meat.
Another explanation for not eating meat is by making a sacrifice of penance, controlling the will to avoid food that is appetizing, because if you can't say no to some tacos, you won't be able to say no to stronger temptations. , so the vigil serves to make our will act for our good.
